I’ll be heading up to Hemlock Valley Resort in BC on Wednesday to do a quick snow inspection and get ready to build the BC Jnr Winter Games course.
I love building at these little resorts, especially the ones nice and close to my home. Being able to come home every night to my family is amazing.
Hemlock is a great little hill in the Fraser Valley, approximately 1.5 hours from Vancouver. Accessed by a gravel road and only a few old chairlifts, it gives a feeling of what skiing and snowboarding used to be like in the sports early days.
You can stand in the lift line and spot skis and snowboards that you think should be in a museum by now. I offered to buy a mid 90’s Burton off a guy last year and he had no idea why I would want to buy his brothers old snowboard.
Check out this trail map and try to head up to Hemlock on a powder day and you will not be disappointed. All it takes is a little hike along a cat road to access some amazing pow runs. Funny thing is most people couldn’t be bothered hiking so you get the entire bowl area to yourself. Last year I rode fresh lines for four hours on a Saturday because nobody likes to hike.
